About Darkroom
Darkroom is a one-button timing game set in a photo lab. Each print needs a set number of seconds in the developer. One tap sends the paper into the developer, you count silently, and a second tap lifts it out when you think the moment has arrived. The count happens in your head rather than on a clock, which is the whole test.
The day has five prints, and the aim is to pull each one as close to the right second as you can. Other players' pull times are shown as marks to beat, which works because everyone develops the same five prints. A new batch of prints is ready at midnight New York time.
How to play
- Note the target time for the print you are about to develop.
- Tap once to send the paper into the developer and start counting silently.
- Tap again to pull the print out when your count reaches the target.
- Repeat for all five prints and compare your times with other players'.
Tips
- Count with a filler word, such as one-Mississippi, to keep each second the same length.
- Tap your foot or nod along with your count; a physical beat can help keep the rhythm even.
Time and controls
A round takes about 2–3 minutes. Tap the screen once to put the paper in and again to pull it out; on a computer, Space does the same.
