About How Many
How Many shows you a picture packed with things to count, like a heap of jelly beans, a field of sheep or a sky full of stars, and then takes it away after a few seconds. There is no time to count one by one, so you estimate, enter your number on the keypad and press Enter to lock in the guess.
After each guess you see how your number sits beside the crowd's average for the same exhibit. The day holds five exhibits, all shared by every player, and the batch is changed at midnight New York time.
How to play
- Watch the exhibit closely during the few seconds it is shown.
- Estimate how many items were in the picture.
- Key in your number with the keypad or keyboard, then press Enter.
- Compare your guess with the crowd's average, then move to the next exhibit.
Tips
- Count a small patch, then judge how many patches like it fill the picture and multiply.
- Settle on your number before the picture disappears, so you are not trying to recall it from a fading memory.
Time and controls
A round takes about 1–2 minutes. Tap the on-screen keypad on a phone or type the number on a computer, then press Enter.
