About Pin Drop
A round of Pin Drop gives you five places, one at a time, from well-known cities like Paris to spots such as Machu Picchu or Ulaanbaatar. The world map is blank, with no names to lean on, so you pan and zoom to the area where you believe the place lies, set your pin and press Drop Pin to commit.
After each pin you learn how far your guess landed from the real location and how that stacks up against the average pin from other players. Everyone works from the same five places on a given day, which is what makes that comparison fair, and the list turns over at midnight New York time.
How to play
- Read the name of the place you need to find.
- Drag to pan and zoom in on the region you have in mind.
- Tap or click where you think it is, then press Drop Pin.
- Check your distance against the crowd, then go on to the next place.
Tips
- Zoom in before you commit; a pin in the right country but the wrong corner of it can still cost a lot of distance.
- Use the shapes of coastlines you know well as anchors when the place is somewhere unfamiliar.
Time and controls
A round takes about 2–3 minutes. On a phone, drag to move the map and tap to set the pin; on a computer, click to place, drag to pan and use the scroll wheel to zoom.
