Games like Crosstune

Updated

Crosstune calls itself a music crossword. Each day brings a new themed grid, and the clues come as song clips: you listen, work out who sings it or what it is called, and type the answer into the grid on an on-screen keyboard. Text clues appear too, such as a line with one word left blank. A timer runs while you solve, with Check and Reveal buttons for when you get stuck. The joy is in hearing a few notes and knowing exactly which answer fills the gap.

Crosstune sits where song recognition meets grid solving, so both kinds of game appear below. A music bingo card that fills from clips comes first, followed by quizzes that name songs from audio, lyrics or a band building up. A Connections-style music board bridges to the last group, plain crosswords for the grid side of the habit.

Guess the Song

guessthesong.fm · Other

Five chart songs to identify from brief clips, where more listening time can be bought with points and naming the singer or band as well earns a bonus, much as a Crosstune clue may want either the title or the act.

Lyricle

Starts from words instead of sound: a single lyric is shown and you name the track, and each miss or pass brings in the line after it. It suits players who prefer Crosstune's text clues.

Heardle Daily

The classic clip guess: a few seconds of a well-known song, six tries to name it, and more audio whenever you pass or miss. It isolates the listening half of Crosstune.

Questions

How do you play Crosstune?

Press Start, choose a clue and play its audio, then type what you recognize, usually an artist or a song title, into the grid with the on-screen keyboard. A timer runs from the start, and Check and Reveal buttons are on hand for when you want to confirm an entry or give up on one.

Is there a new Crosstune every day?

Yes. Each puzzle is dated, and the site also promotes a separate mini-game called Unshuffle, where the job is reassembling the day's song. For a daily song quiz that uses clips the way Crosstune clues do, Heardle Daily and Songdle are the most direct follow-ups.

Which games mix music with grids like Crosstune?

Bingle uses a 3x3 bingo card that you complete by naming songs from clips, and Harmonies sorts sixteen music tiles into four themed groups. For crossword practice without audio, Puzzmo's themed crossword and the 5x5 Mini Crossword both keep a timer running, as Crosstune does.
