Games like Songless

Updated

Songless, from the Lessgames team, starts every song with a sound just 0.1 seconds long and asks you for the title. Pressing Skip or typing a wrong answer unlocks more of the recording, so the snippet gets longer until the song finally clicks. Five playlists sit above the player, Top Hits, Pop, EDM, Rock and Hip Hop, and signing in keeps your stats. Half the fun is realizing that a single drum hit or synth stab was enough.

Picks are ordered by how short the opening clip is. Games that also open on a 0.1-second sample lead the list, then intro games with a slightly kinder first listen, then a few that change the way you answer: choosing from four titles, naming a song from its drum part, or treating the song round as one stop in a larger daily set.

Songduel

Opens on the same 0.1-second sound and sorts its songs by style too, with hip hop, pop and EDM lists beside an all-hits mix, but a round asks for six songs and passing can stretch a clip to 15 seconds.

Blipsong

blipsong.app · Music

Close to a twin of Songless: your first listen lasts 0.1 seconds, and each wrong answer or pass extends it, reaching fifteen seconds by the sixth and final listen, so you always know how many chances remain.

BLIP

guessthatblip.com · Music

Uses an identical 100-millisecond opening but plays five different songs in a day rather than one, and the score rises the fewer times you ask for a longer clip, so a sharp ear pays off across the whole set.

Sound of Sliver

Keeps the tiny clips but runs ten songs in a sitting, each answered by spinning a click wheel like an old iPod's while your points tick away, and the theme of the songs changes from day to day.

ReHeardle

reheardle.com · Music

A softer start than Songless: the sample comes from the song's intro, and every pass or miss adds one more second of audio, which suits listeners who want a real chance on the first try.

Heardle Daily

The classic format at its plainest: one popular song, up to six tries and a clip that keeps lengthening as you go, for days when you want the charts without choosing a genre list first.

Heardle 2020's

Limits the pool to songs from the 2020s, heard in brief bursts that lengthen after every wrong answer, a natural follow-on for players who shine on Songless's Top Hits and Pop lists.

FlipList Daily

Hands you seven songs with one second of each, but you pick from four titles instead of typing, and asking to hear a longer stretch, from two seconds up to eight, takes points off your score.

Questions

What playlists does Songless have?

Five, listed at the top of the game: Top Hits, Pop, EDM, Rock and Hip Hop. Pop and EDM are the newest, added in an update that also renamed the Top Hits list. For a similar split elsewhere, Songduel keeps separate pop, hip hop and EDM lists.

Who makes Songless, and do they run other games?

Songless comes from Lessgames. The same team runs Guessless, a daily estimation game with five number questions worth up to 100 points each, where a guess that is halfway off earns half the points. It also runs More/Less, which shows two things and asks you to say which of the pair has the larger figure, Google search counts being one example.

Which other games start from a 0.1-second clip?

Songduel, Blipsong and BLIP all open on a sound about that short. Blipsong and Songduel both let the clip run to fifteen seconds at most, and BLIP plays five songs a day and rewards using fewer extensions.
