What Buzzled is
On a honeycomb of numbered hexagons, Buzzled sets a coloring puzzle about sums: every cell must end up yellow or black. Each row leads to a pin showing a color and a total, and the row is right when its cells of that color add up to exactly that number. Puzzmallow, a two-person studio in the UK that designs its own logic, word and number puzzles, publishes it.
How a round works
Cells start out white. Tap one to change its color, or right-click on a computer to step through the colors the other way. Once a row's chosen color reaches its target, the pin gains a green border, and tapping that pin paints every still-white cell in the row the other color, a quick way to finish what logic has already settled. Undo and Reset stay on screen next to a timer you can hide. Tabs below the grid switch between four modes: Mini for a quick or first solve, Classic, Expert, and Master, where the hexes carry no numbers and each pin counts cells instead of adding them.
Good if you like…
- Play Kakuro: Play Kakuro is built on line totals too, but you write digits into the runs across and down until each meets its clue, instead of coloring numbers already printed.
- Hex Star Battle: Hex Star Battle shares the six-sided cells, applying star-battle logic to a hexagon board where you deduce which cells hold stars, with no sums to work out.
- Pips: Pips also asks numbers to reach target sums, but you lay dominoes into colored regions that each carry their own rule, at three difficulty settings, instead of shading fixed cells.
- Hitori Conquest: Hitori Conquest is another shade-the-cells number grid with a timer, but on a 5x5 square you black out cells so no digit repeats, rather than coloring toward totals.
