What Cadgy is
Five columns of letter tiles make up Cadgy, a word hunt in which taking one tile per column spells a five-letter word. Each grid holds ten everyday words and ten harder bonus ones, edited by hand, and the game borrows its name from a Scottish and northern English word for a cheerful, lively person.
How a round works
Tap tiles or type letters to build a guess; each valid word adds 10 points, so all twenty are worth 200. The basic words come with no help, while every bonus word has a short definition under the grid, some leaning on rare vocabulary. When every word through a tile has been found, that tile turns gold. A clock runs with no limit, and reaching 200 inside three minutes or without a single invalid entry counts as a win. Shuffle and 3D buttons change the view, and you can reveal the answers, print the puzzle or share. Afterward you can see how others fared on the grid, and a date menu opens earlier days.
When Cadgy resets
The next Cadgy puzzle goes live at 12:00 a.m. in Los Angeles, which is 3:00 a.m. in New York all year round.
When the other daily games reset is on one page of reset times.
Good if you like…
- Zigzag: Zigzag is built almost the same way, a tile drawn from every column, five in all, with ten basic and ten bonus answers, but its words are matched to short definitions.
- Word Slicer: Word Slicer also works in columns of letters, except that you slide each column up or down until five hidden words line up in rows across the grid.
- Unzip: Unzip spells a secret word by pulling one letter out of five separate hint words, a similar one-per-source rule, played against a clock that adds ten seconds per wrong guess.
- Boggdle: Boggdle also scores words drawn from a letter board, but it is a Boggle-style grid with point values on the tiles, and you may submit only three words.
