What ColorGuesser is
ColorGuesser hands you the name of a color, nothing more, and you answer by picking a spot on a color wheel. Five names make up the daily set, shared by every player, and each pick earns up to 100 points depending on how near it lands. Kiru built it as a weekend project and runs it beside a shelf of color tools.
How a round works
A short guide opens first, then the wheel appears with the first name and a Reveal button. Choose the shade you think the name describes and press Reveal to find out how near you got and what the round scored. Closeness is measured with CIE94, a color difference formula meant to track how the eye judges color differences, so a pick that looks almost right scores almost full marks. After five names the total can reach 500. The names come from an open-source database of color names, and the FAQ admits a few of them are strange. Opposite mode asks for the inverse of the named color, and Infinite mode keeps serving rounds with no daily cap.
Good if you like…
- Close Hue: Close Hue runs nearly the same daily drill, a written color name turned into a chosen shade five times over and scored on how close it looks, while ColorGuesser adds Opposite and Infinite modes.
- Prism: Prism includes a find-the-hue-on-a-wheel round too, but only as one of five color tests in a row, next to sorting shades, mixing paint blind and recalling a swatch shown briefly.
- Colordle: Colordle turns the task around: the shade is the mystery, and you approach it by typing names picked off a set list, with every guess shown as a closeness percentage.
- Dialed - Color Toon: Dialed - Color Toon also scores your eye for color, but you fix a cartoon character or logo that has one wrong shade by recalling the real one, rather than matching a written name.
