Games like HoopGrids

Updated

HoopGrids is a daily NBA grid where every square sits at the crossing of two categories, such as Played in the 2010s, and wants one player who satisfies the pair. Tries on any one square are unlimited, which lets you stay with it until something sticks, and a rarity score updates as you play, favoring names few others chose. Normal, Hint and Reverse modes sit beside an archive, a speedrun, custom boards and a leaderboard. A board feels memorable when you land a name no one else considered.

The list opens with other basketball grids, then rarity and stat challenges and NBA rosters used in other formats. After those come grids for football, hockey, baseball, soccer and even pro wrestling, each of which borrows the crossing-categories board.

NBA Ball Knowledge Dive

draftchallenger.com · Sports

Shares HoopGrids' taste for the less obvious answer: seven questions from the NBA record book take any correct name, but uncommon ones send your ball further down, on a one-minute clock that loses three seconds for each wrong reply.

StatPad Game

Asks for qualifying players row by row, like a grid, but scores them by the total of one daily stat, WAR for example, so the right star beats the rare one; it has NBA, MLB and NFL boards.

Immaculate Grid: Baseball

Sports Reference · sports-reference.com · Sports

The baseball board: each of nine boxes wants an MLB player who meets a team or stat condition from both directions, nine guesses in all, and rarity scoring that favors forgotten names, a firmer limit than HoopGrids sets.

Applies the grid to pro wrestling, one of three games it posts each night: nine squares that each need a wrestler matching two clues, next to a short timed quiz and an eight-guess hunt for one mystery wrestler.

Questions

What is Challenge Mode in HoopGrids?

It is a live one-on-one game against a friend on a single board. You take turns choosing a square, each of you picks a player for it without seeing the other's choice, and whichever valid pick is less common takes the square. It sits beside the normal daily grid, where retries on each square are unlimited and rarity is scored as you go.

What other modes does HoopGrids have?

Besides Normal, there are Hint and Reverse modes, a back catalog of older puzzles, a speedrun option, stats, a leaderboard and a friends list, and a tool for creating your own board. For a grid with a hard limit instead, NBA Grid and Immaculate Grid: Men's Basketball each allow nine guesses for the nine squares.

Is there a HoopGrids for other sports?

NFL Grid covers football with an overtime stage, Puckdoku does hockey with a uniqueness score, Immaculate Grid: Baseball handles MLB, and The Ball Grid uses Premier League players. Immaculate Grid: Women's Basketball stays with basketball but switches to the WNBA, and The Push runs a nightly grid of pro wrestlers.
