What Symble is
Symble replaces Wordle's colored feedback with three random symbols whose meanings you have to deduce, and gives you eight attempts to find a secret word of five letters. Its creator, Daniel Baamonde, built it around that extra layer of code-breaking. The daily word is shared by everyone, and four more modes cover endless play, timed and head-to-head blitzes and puzzles you write yourself.
How a round works
Each game draws three new symbols. One means the covered letter is absent from your guess, one means you placed it exactly, and one means you used it somewhere else, but nobody tells you which is which. They also sit over the letters of the hidden answer, not over what you typed. The site's walkthrough uses SHAKE as the answer and THICK as a guess, which puts the right-spot symbol over the H and the wrong-spot one over the K. Decode the symbols first, then the word. On your last guess the grey tiles flip to reveal their colors.
When Symble resets
Symble turns over at local midnight: whatever time zone your phone or computer is set to decides when the next one appears. On the US East Coast that is 12:00 a.m. ET.
When the other daily games reset is on one page of reset times.
Good if you like…
- Wordle: Wordle is the game Symble credits as its inspiration: the same hunt for a five-letter word, but with six guesses and colors you can read straight away on your own letters.
- Wordspan: Wordspan also trades colored tiles for symbols on a five-letter word, though its marks show how each letter ranks alphabetically against the one after it, over six attempts.
- Alphalock: Alphalock is another code-cracking word hunt, a four-letter word inside ten rows, where each row's feedback narrows the letters with no symbol meanings to decode first.
- Wordless: Wordless sticks with familiar Wordle-style colors but shares the custom option, letting you choose an answer and send it to friends, and it has a hard mode.
