What Word500 is
Word500 strips the Wordle formula of its letter-by-letter colors and reports only totals. After each try, three colored counters (green, yellow and red) give the number of letters placed correctly, present but misplaced, and absent, and you get eight tries to work out which letters those figures point to. Practice games without limit and an archive of past days sit beside the daily.
How a round works
Enter a word and the three counts appear on the right of it; the help page's example has STARE scoring two letters present in other positions and three missing. The keyboard carries tools for the deduction. Space drops an underscore as a placeholder so you can test a partial pattern, Hint proposes a candidate consistent with everything so far (only after your first guess), and Clear wipes your markings. Tapping a letter tile cycles it through red, yellow, green and blank, a way to record what you have inferred. On Standard difficulty the answer never repeats a letter and certain letters never appear. Every language and difficulty setting receives its own new word daily.
Good if you like…
- Wordle: Wordle is the plain version of this format: six tries, with each letter colored by position, where Word500 gives only totals and adds two more attempts.
- One Shot: One Shot leans on the same kind of reasoning from scored feedback, but the rows of clues come pre-graded and you get a single guess against a par time.
- SteppedUpdle: SteppedUpdle keeps ordinary per-letter colors but chains four words of growing length, from four letters to seven, on one supply of twenty guesses.
- QWRTL: QWRTL is another Wordle variant with a twist on the rules: the letter E is banned from every guess and answer, and you choose the word length first.
