Games like Magnitudle

Updated

Each day Magnitudle poses one real-world question, for example how many hot dogs Major League ballparks sell over a season, and gives you a single number to answer it with. You type a figure, scale it with shortcut buttons that run from thousands up to quadrillions, then lock it in. Scoring works in powers of ten, so a guess of one million against a true 600,000 still earns 92. Being roughly right, rather than exactly right, is the whole pleasure.

Everything below asks you to put a figure on something from the real world. Fermi comes first because it grades a guess by how many times off it is, the same multiplicative yardstick Magnitudle uses. Other daily number quizzes follow, then games that point estimation at weights, sizes, counts and prices, and finally two that only ask whether a figure sits higher or lower.

Closest first
1

Fermi

fermi.gg · Other

Closest in spirit: three tough numerical questions, a single estimate for each, and a score set by how many times too high or too low you land, which rewards the order-of-magnitude reasoning Magnitudle trains. A calculator sits on screen for the arithmetic.

Ballpark

witsday.com · Other

Five numeric trivia questions instead of one, answered on a slider, with up to 200 points per question for getting near the truth. One example asks how wide the Pantheon's dome is on the inside, the kind of figure Magnitudle players like to reason toward.

Estimatle

estimatle.com · Other

Another five-question number quiz on a slider, where each step of error knocks a point off the 100 available. Afterward you can see how your estimate sat among the guesses of other players, turning a lone figure into a comparison with the crowd.

Estimania

estimania.app · Other

Groups its five number questions around a single theme, sleep for example, so a single subject gets several numeric angles in one sitting. Each answer is scored on how near it gets, a close cousin of a Magnitudle guess.

RealCost

realcost.gg · Other

Its scoring is proportional, like Magnitudle's: five historical items, all real, get one price guess each, and the miss is measured relative to the true price, so a cheap item and a costly one are judged on the same footing.

Weighsies

weighsies.dev · Other

Estimation by comparison: work out how many house cats, bowling balls or similar everyday items would match the weight of something heavy, for five objects in all. It suits anyone who follows Magnitudle's tip of starting from a familiar anchor.

Sizele

size-it.net · Other

Orders of magnitude appear here as a clue, not a scoring scale. You get five tries to identify a secret everyday object, each marked larger or smaller than the answer, how close in size, and which order of magnitude it falls in.

To Scale

toscale.cybernative.ai · Other

Trades counts for lengths: five museum objects are photographed so nothing gives away their scale, and you set a slider to how long you think the longest edge of each one is.

PriceCue

linerko.com · Other

Five prices to pin down, ranging from what a gadget cost at launch to what something fetched at auction. Each question states its period and how the price is measured, so you know which figure is meant, and the sources appear afterward.

Amountle

amountle.dev · Other

A visual take on counting: objects pour into a container and you estimate how many ended up inside, five rounds a day, while extra modes, including survival and an over-under variant, let you keep practicing.

Moneyline

moneyline.fromthethink.com · Other

Flips the task around: a number is already set for each trivia line, and you only call whether the real figure is over or under it, playing alone or against other people.

The lightest relative on the list: two things side by side, and you choose the one with the larger number, such as how often each is searched on Google, across several categories.

Questions

How is Magnitudle scored?

By distance in powers of ten. Magnitudle compares your number with the real one on a logarithmic scale, so missing by a factor of two costs far less than missing by a factor of a hundred. The game's own example shows a guess of 1,000,000 against an actual 600,000 still scoring 92, which is why a well-reasoned ballpark figure does so well.

What do the x1K and x1M buttons do in Magnitudle?

They multiply the number you have typed, so you can enter 600 and tap x1K for 600,000 instead of typing every zero. The row runs x1K, x1M, x1B, x1T and x1Q, covering thousands, millions, billions, trillions and quadrillions, and Lock In submits your answer once it looks right.

Any tips for getting closer in Magnitudle?

The game's own advice is to start from one familiar anchor and multiply up. For the hot dog question, that could mean estimating sales at one stadium on one night, then scaling by games and ballparks. Fermi rewards exactly the same habit, with a calculator on screen to handle the multiplication for you.
