What Estimania is
Estimania gives you five questions a day whose answers are numbers, covering sport, history, science, geography and other fields, and scores each estimate by how close it lands. Knowing the exact figure is not expected: some questions are Fermi problems meant to be reasoned out, and each answer is followed by a brief explanation.
How a round works
Each question appears on its own screen with an emoji, a box for your number and a unit label; the one checked for this page could switch from ounces to grams, and a calculator sits underneath. Scoring compares your number with the answer as a ratio, so guessing double or half costs the same: 2× off earns 70 of 100, and 10× off earns nothing. Percentage questions are judged on the odds instead, and a few narrow-range ones drop to zero at 3×. The five scores add up to a mark out of 500 with a leaderboard rank. A finished puzzle locks, and a recovery code carries your scores to a second device.
When Estimania resets
Estimania switches to the next puzzle at 12:00 a.m. UTC. In New York that is 7:00 p.m. during standard time (EST) and 8:00 p.m. during daylight time (EDT), so East Coast players can start the next day’s puzzle the evening before.
When the other daily games reset is on one page of reset times.
Good if you like…
- Fermi: Fermi is the nearest match in spirit: three tough number questions, one estimate each, a built-in calculator and scoring by the factor you miss by, against Estimania's five.
- Magnitudle: Magnitudle cuts the set down to a single quantity, picked as a figure and a scale from thousands up to quadrillions, and it too judges a miss by the factor separating you from the truth.
- Ballpark: Ballpark also sets five number-answer trivia questions each day, but you drag a slider to your guess, with as many as 200 points available per question.
- Estimatle: Estimatle runs five number questions on a slider too, deducting a point from 100 per step of error and then showing you how other players guessed.
