What Magnitudle is
Magnitudle is a daily estimation question with a real numeric answer, and you get one guess at it, scored by how many times too high or too low you land rather than by the raw gap. One recent question asked for the number of hot dogs MLB stadiums sell in an ordinary season. Its home site also hosts the visual Size It Up games, Weigh It Up and a weekly ten-round set.
How a round works
Each question comes with a short topic label. You enter a figure and attach a multiplier from a row of buttons that steps up from thousands (x1K) through millions, billions and trillions to quadrillions (x1Q), then press Lock In. The reveal gives the true value, your score and a note on how that value was worked out.
Scoring runs on ratios: landing on or almost on the answer earns 100, a miss by a factor of two earns 80, by ten earns 42 and by a hundred earns 5, whichever side you miss on. Your rank among the day's players is shown too, and old questions sit in the Archive for practice.
When Magnitudle resets
Magnitudle turns over at local midnight: whatever time zone your phone or computer is set to decides when the next one appears. On the US East Coast that is 12:00 a.m. ET.
When the other daily games reset is on one page of reset times.
Good if you like…
- Fermi: Also built on hard-to-picture figures answered with a single estimate each and scored on how many times off you are, but Fermi sets three questions and supplies a calculator.
- Size It Up: Comes from the same estimation site and trades the typed number for a silhouette you resize against a reference object, five comparisons a day.
- Costcodle: Another guess at a real-world figure, here the price of one Costco product, with six tries and higher or lower arrows instead of a single locked answer.
- More/Less: Draws on the same feel for large quantities, though you only choose which of two things has the bigger number instead of naming the value yourself.
