What Blockle is
Blockle hands you six lettered pieces and a five-by-five frame, and every piece has to be slotted in so that all five rows spell words. The pieces come already turned the right way, so the work is choosing where each one goes, and the five answers share a theme that is never spelled out. The page credits its maker simply as Ollie.
How a round works
A clock starts as soon as the board loads, with the pieces spread around the empty grid. Tap or drag a piece and drop it into place; keyboard players cycle through pieces with the spacebar and steer the chosen one with the arrows. No piece ever needs rotating. One square of the grid is left blank, and its letter appears only after the whole puzzle is right. A label above the board gives the language, the grid size and the date of the puzzle, and a Puzzle Select button is also on screen.
Good if you like…
- Squareword: Squareword also ends with a five-by-five block of words, but its columns must read as words too, and you get there by typing five-letter guesses that show where letters belong.
- Crossflip: Crossflip shares the themed grid of words but works with double-sided tiles you flip, steering each row and column toward the theme and away from a decoy, against a par count.
- Ravle: Ravle comes closest in shape, as letters move on a grid of 4x4 or 5x5 until every row names something in the day's category, though you shift single tiles and get color checks.
- Shards: Shards is another reassembly job built from lettered fragments, except the finished picture is a mini crossword, so runs down and across both have to work, and no clues are given.
