What Word Grid is
Word Grid crosses two sets of spelling rules on a 3x3 board: each row has one, each column has another, and every square needs a single word that meets both. The rules deal in things like opening or closing letters, letters a word must contain, double letters and word length, and each answer is given a rarity score that you try to push down.
How a round works
Picking a square opens a pop-up that says how many valid answers exist for it, along with counts of undiscovered answers and active unicorns. Submit a word with Go; an Auto-close switch can shut the pop-up after each entry. The tutorial's first card shows how the crossing works: with Five letter word on one side and Starts with PH on the other, PHONE, PHOTO and PHASE all qualify. A Rarity total, starting at 0.00, follows your answers, and less common picks keep it lower, which is the goal. Beside the numbered daily board sit links to Reverse Mode, a leaderboard, a friends tab, an archive, stats and a tool for building a custom grid.
Good if you like…
- Anything Grid: Uses the same nine squares and the same low-is-better rarity scoring, but its categories range over any kind of answer instead of rules about how a word is spelled.
- Movie Grid: Same crossing-rules board, three by three, filled with film titles that meet an actor or title condition on each side, and capped at nine guesses.
- Letterly: Also pays off for picking words other players will not think of, though it is a timed Scattergories round: ten categories, one drawn letter and 90 seconds.
- Bookends: Builds its puzzle from spelling rules too, with every word starting on one given letter and ending on the other, scored on length and a few themed bonus picks.
