Daily color games

Updated

Color games ask you to see a shade precisely, and most of them grade how near you land. Colordle takes the most Wordle-like route: each color name you enter, picked from the game's own list, comes back with a closeness percentage against the hidden shade. Hex games want the six-character code, with digits marked high, low, placed or misplaced, while slider games have you set three RGB values, or hue, saturation and lightness, until the swatch matches. Colorfle and Chroma ask for a recipe instead, three colors and their shares.

Other games run from a word to a color: a name such as wine or goldenrod, or a brand logo stripped of color, and you pick the shade it stands for. The memory games flash a color, take it away and have you rebuild it, most often five times a day, scored out of 50. The last group tests the eye in other ways, from spotting the one tile that is slightly off and matching colors through optical illusions to restoring a scrambled gradient or naming the theme behind four colors.

Each has one daily set that everyone plays, though the hour varies. Hueman changes at midnight UTC, which is 7:00 p.m. in New York in winter and 8:00 p.m. in summer, the two Greatest Games titles when midnight reaches New York, and Colorfle in the late afternoon, at 5:00 p.m. wherever you are. Several add practice, unlimited or archive modes for more rounds.
